The bill on security organization at international sports events was adopted

The law expands the powers of the President of the Russian Federation to ensure integral security at international sports events in Russia. Possible restrictions include the establishment of controlled or restricted areas, restrictions on entry or temporary stay of citizens, vehicles, and prohibition of trafficking in weapons, ammunition, explosives and others

On December 19, 2018, members of the State Duma at the plenary meeting adopted at the third reading a draft law on amendments to the Federal Law “On Physical Culture and Sport in the Russian Federation”. The draft law is aimed at establishment of a legal framework for ensuring integral security at international sports events in Russia that create the obligations for the Russian Federation.

, told reporters: “This government bill is one of the priorities, as it is associated with the empowerment of the President of Russia. It is aimed at establishment of a legal framework for ensuring integral security during international sports events in Russia. Possible measures include the designation of controlled and restricted areas, restrictions on the entry or temporary stay of citizens, vehicles and the prohibition of trafficking in weapons, ammunition, explosives and others”.

“The draft law is a continuation of targeted efforts to analyze the interim measures adopted for 2018 FIFA World Cup with and their further legal entitlement. This task was set by Vladimir V. Putin during the meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport. I am currently heading a working group on improving legislation in the field of physical culture and sports created within the Council, which is analyzing such legislation. The 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship in St. Petersburg and other major international sporting events will soon take place. And ensuring the safety of our citizens and guests is a primary national task,” the parliamentarian concluded.
