reminded
that the official visit of the delegation of the State Duma began with a visit
to the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated and parliamentarians paid
tribute to the memory of the leader of the Indian people in the struggle for independence.
“At the conclusion of the visit, we are standing at the monument to this great person, who has proved with his life that a lot of things can be done without wars, without violence,” he stated.
The Chairman of the State Duma called Mahatma Gandhi the greatest humanist who had left behind an immense legacy that is well known all over the world, including in Russia. He also recalled that Mahatma Gandhi corresponded with Leo Tolstoy.
“A person lives, his apprentice lives, as long as he is remembered, while his teaching is unifying,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
Sumitra Mahajan noted that events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi will be held in India next year.
“We will definitely take part in the events,” Viacheslav Volodin concluded.
