stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary and inter-factional cooperation between the CIS countries for the State Duma and the United Russia faction. He noted that the Russian side is interested in the development of such interaction, the implementation of its new formats. In particular, today the International Conference “Role of Interaction between
Factions of Political Parties and Blocs in Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the CIS Countries” is taking place in the State Duma where representatives of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States participate. Meetings
of Russian parliamentarians with foreign delegations take place during the conference.
“Such format has been implemented in the inter-parliamentary dimension for the first time, we will try to support it,” continued Sergei Neverov.
He stated that at the moment the interaction of the parliaments of Russia and South Ossetia has been built. “Now we would like to go on closer contact within the framework of interaction of the factions, not limited to communication within the framework of the established “friendship group” and political parties. That would be correct. This cooperation can give a new impetus to the interaction of parties, the development of countries, and open up new opportunities for work,” the member of the State Duma stated.
In his turn, Petr Gassiev thanked Sergei Neverov for his interest in cooperation with South Ossetia. He noted that in order to harmonize the legislation of the two countries and implement international treaties concluded between Russia and South Ossetia, in 2013 the State Duma and the Parliament of South Ossetia signed an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation.
In this regard, Petr Gassiev asked Sergei Neverov to assist in the conclusion of an inter-party and inter-factional agreement between United Russia and United Ossetia.
At present, there is an agreement between the Ossetian party “Unity” and “United Russia”, an agreement between “United Russia” and the “United Ossetia” established in 2012 has not yet been concluded.
“As for the programs and the goals of the parties we have much in common,” said Petr Gassiev.
As Sergei Neverov noted, the prospects for concluding such an agreement “need to be discussed with (Secretary General of the Council of United Russia) Andrei Turchak and Party Chairman Dmitry Medvedev.” “We have no disagreements regarding such interactions, they may be built. As for inter-factional cooperation, we have already identified it,” the head of the United Russia faction said.
During the meeting, Petr Gassiev also expressed the desire of South Ossetian parliamentarians to participate as observers in the work of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
