together with his colleagues from the State Duma took part in the ceremonial session of the Milli Majlis dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani parliament. Members of the delegation together with the head of the parliamentary ”friendship group“ from the Azerbaijani side Ali Magomedovich Huseynli also walked along the old city of Baku.

”Russia and Azerbaijan are historically close to each other, for example, in 1918 the parliament of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic was headed by Alimardan-bek Topchibashev, who had previously led the Muslim faction in the State Duma of the Russian Empire of the first convocation. Since then, a lot has changed, but the aspiration of Russia and Azerbaijan to build long-term, mutually beneficial partnership relations remains unchanged,“ the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma said.

According to Sergei Neverov, ”today one of the most important issues on our joint agenda is the ratification of the historic Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, signed by the heads of the Caspian countries on August 12 this year, as well as bringing the domestic legislation of our countries in compliance with it“.

Sergei Neverov once again congratulated Azerbaijani colleagues on the anniversary of the parliament and expressed confidence that the parliamentarians of the two countries ”have more than one century of good-neighborly cooperation ahead“.
