Viacheslav Volodin proposed to create joint commission of the State Duma and the Azerbaijani National Assembly

During his visit to Azerbaijan Chairman of the State Duma Viaсheslav Volodin had a meeting with parliamentarians from the Milli Majilis (National Assembly)

At the beginning of the meeting Chairman of the Milli Majilis Ogtay Asadov noted that Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation has “deep roots” and has now reached the level of strategic partnership. Ogtay Asadov added that the visit of the delegation of the State Duma to Azerbaijan will support further development of interparliamentary relations between two countries. He also noted that meetings between the presidents of two countries are very important for the development of Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation. ‘We have not only a high-level political dialogue, but also trade and economic cooperation,’ the Chairman of the Malli Majilis said. He emphasized that last year's trade turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan was $2 billion 647 thousand, more than 759 Russian companies work in Azerbaijan, Russian investments to Azerbaijan amounted to $4.2 billion, and Azerbaijani investments to Russia were more than $1 billion in 2017.

thanked for “respect for Russian language”, noting that there are not so many Russian-speaking schools in any other country. 
The Chairman of the State Duma also expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan. It is the second meeting of Viacheslav Volodin and Ogtay Asadov, they met in the State Duma on 7 February earlier this year when Azerbaijani parliamentarians visited Moscow.
Both Chairmen noted that the parliaments of two countries should make a significant contribution to development of Russian-Azerbaijani relations. Viacheslav Volodin proposed to establish High Level Interparliamentary Commission on issues of importance for the citizens of two states. It is proposed that the Deputy Chairmen of the State Duma and Milli Majilis will head the Commission. 

Before the meeting the Chairman of the State Duma left a note in the Book of Honorable Guests: ”Our countries have a long history of good-neighborly relations and strategic partnership. The development of interparliamentary cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan serves the interests of people of our countries and it is a solid basis for friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.“
