, during the discussion of the bill establishing criminal liability for the desecration of military graves and memorials, called on the CIS member states, as well as the states that were Allies during World War II, to introduce similar norms.

Vyacheslav Volodin recalled that the amendments to the legislation adopted today establish criminal liability for the desecration of such objects, no matter where they are located — on the territory of Russia or in other states.

According to the Chairman of the State Duma, similar cases of desecration were recorded in a number of European states. “Those who commit these illegal acts should realize that they bear criminal liability. And, despite the fact that such acts are committed on the territory of another state, they will be held criminally liable,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.

“Today’s amendments aim to protect the memory of our grandfathers, great-grandfathers, to do everything to preserve the truth about the Great Patriotic War, World War II in general. We hope that our colleagues from other countries will support our decision and, for their part, will adopt similar federal laws,” said the Chairman of the State Duma and added that such amendments should be developed in the CIS member states and in the legislation of the states of anti-Hitlerite coalition.

“A multinational people, all citizens of the republics that received statehood, who defended the country, the world from Nazism, they were buried in different European countries,” he said.
