The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua Gustavo Porras
Cortés. They discussed the current issues of the development of inter-parliamentary
relations between Russia and Nicaragua.
“Despite those many kilometers between us, we have very close relations. Russia and Nicaragua have a long-standing friendship that stood the test time. Our long-standing cooperation is based on the principles of equality and mutual respect. This year we mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Russia and Nicaragua. We have stood, supporting each other,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
Presidents Vladimir Putin and Daniel Ortega made a huge contribution to the development of relations between Russia and Nicaragua, and parliamentarians should make their own contribution too, as stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
According to him, the inter-parliamentary dialogue between Russia and Nicaragua has recently been enhanced. He recalled that the first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of Nicaragua had been held in Moscow last October. Such format of cooperation had proved to be effective, as said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He also proposed to strengthen cooperation between relevant committees. According to Vyacheslav Volodin, this would help reach a new level of joint work productivity.
“We have big opportunities to enhance our cooperation in various fields: education, humanitarian cooperation, culture. I would like to see those opportunities to be used in our dialogue to solve issues in the interests of our nations,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
It is also important to develop economies within the parliamentary dimension, according to Vyacheslav Volodin. “The bilateral trade has increased: only in the first quarter of 2024 it increased by 70%”, he said.
“We see that there is such a situation in the world, when there are created additional obstacles for your visit, but you have come here and this is very significant for us. We have very special, warm feelings both to you and the Russian Federation, and do not have any doubts that we know at which historic side we are,” emphasized Gustavo Porras Cortés.
He noted that the Parliament of Nicaragua would do the best to strengthen the bilateral relations. “We do not waste time: we have always been working, and our National Assembly is united in that,” added Gustavo Porras Cortés.
Vyacheslav Volodin invited the parliamentarian and Nicaraguan diplomats to pay an official visit to Russia.
