The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met with the Speaker of the Islamic
Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
and the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko attended the meeting.
“I am sure that your work at this event, BRICS’ interparliamentary dimension, will be very useful. More importantly, it comes at the right moment,” said Vladimir Putin, addressing Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. “Iran is beginning its work as a full member of this association. This makes us happy. We worked together to organise Iran’s accession,” he added.
“Russia and Iran are making considerable progress in their relations. Iran recently held a presidential election. I hope and I have no doubt that Russia-Iran relations will develop at the same steady pace as they did under Mr Raisi, whose passing we all mourn. The inauguration of the President-elect of Iran will be held soon. Your colleague, Mr Volodin, will lead the Russian delegation at that event,” said the President of the Russian Federation.
The meeting of Vladimir Putin and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was held on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which is being held in St. Petersburg.
