held a meeting with the Chairman
of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji at the State Duma. Zhao Leji pays an official visit to Russia at the invitation of the Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted the special importance of the visit of the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
“Relations between Russia and China should be developed, we should make contribution within the parliamentary dimension to address issues that are important for the citizens of our countries,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. He added that cooperation with the People’s Republic of China “is a priority for all five factions of the State Duma”.
According to Vyacheslav Volodin, it is also necessary to find and develop new formats of cooperation between Russia and China, including at the parliamentary level.
“The purpose of my visit is to implement, together with my Russian colleagues, the important agreements of our heads of states at the legislative level,” said Zhao Leji. According to him, “under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, the China-Russia comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in the new era are developing at a high level.”
During the meeting, Vyacheslav Volodin and Zhao Leji also discussed the agenda of the upcoming 9th meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National People's Congress, as well as the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which will be held on July 11–12 in St. Petersburg.
