Members of the State Duma unanimously supported the adoption of the bill on the withdrawal of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. The Chairman of the State Duma, leaders of the State Duma factions and almost all members of the State Duma are the co-authors of the bill.
The issue of de-ratification was raised by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at the Valdai Discussion Club meeting.

said that members of the State Duma could
consider the issue in the second and third readings on October 18 and October 19.
“For 23 years we have been waiting for the United States of America to ratify the Treaty (CTBT). But Washington used its double standards and irresponsible approach towards global security issues and still has not done that,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
“Washington should finally understand that hegemony does not bring anything good. There is a need for dialogue on the principles of mutual respect, the absence of double standards, and non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states,” he stressed.
“The Russian Federation will do everything to protect its citizens and ensure that global strategic parity is being maintained,” concluded Vyacheslav Volodin.
