The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
met with the President of the National
Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Jorge Rodríguez Gómez. The speakers discussed issues of development of interparliamentary relations
between Russia and Venezuela.
The meeting was held as part of the events of the First International Parliamentary Conference “Russia – Latin America”.
The Chairman of the State Duma noted the contribution to the development of relations between Russia and Venezuela made by the Presidents Vladimir Putin and Nicolás Maduro. The task of the parliaments is to reach an absolutely new level of dialogue, to provide legislative support for the implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of states, according to Vyacheslav Volodin.
“We have great opportunities to make our own contribution to the development of relations between our states, our nations. Venezuela and Russia are connected not only by ties of friendship and long-standing relations. We are counterparts and like-minded people, we stand for a multipolar world, building a just world order,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.
“The world is not unipolar anymore. There is no more global policeman who told us what we should do and with whom we should cooperate. Just like you, we stand for a multipolar world — a world based on the principles of cooperation, respect, respect for the right to independence and sovereignty,” said Jorge Rodríguez Gómez.
The President of the Venezuelan Parliament thanked for the invitation to take part in the Parliamentary Conference “Russia – Latin America”. According to Jorge Rodríguez Gómez, the participation of his country’s delegation will be “another evidence of strengthening of ties between nations.”
Over the five months of 2023, trade turnover between Russia and Venezuela has increased by more than 47%, as noted Vyacheslav Volodin. “This is a very good result of mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries,” he said.
“All our cooperation, both in the field of trade and in the military-technical field, agro-industrial complex, technology, healthcare, has always been built on the basis of fraternal relations, without any forcing or domination,” emphasized Jorge Rodríguez Gómez.
Following the meeting, Vyacheslav Volodin and Jorge Rodríguez Gómez signed an agreement on cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of Venezuela. This step will give new impetus to the development of interparliamentary dialogue and the enhancement of bilateral cooperation, according to the Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Volodin invited Jorge Rodríguez Gómez to pay another visit to Russia.
