The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with
the Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted the successful development of relations between Russia and Cuba on the principles of trust, friendship and mutual assistance. “The Russian Federation and the State Duma have always supported Cuba,” he added.
All the members of the State Duma regardless their different political views stand against sanctions pressure on sovereign states, according to Vyacheslav Volodin.
“Members of the State Duma stand for a just, multipolar world order. We will not tolerate the US sanctions policy: its goal is to hamper development of such countries like Russia, China, Cuba, Korea, Iran, Türkiye and many others,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
According to the Chairman of the State Duma, such policy is “a new form of colonization” and only sovereign states have future.
Speaking about further strengthening of cooperation between Russia and Cuba, Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that it was based on the active work of the heads of states Vladimir Putin and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. He also noted the importance to use more actively the parliamentary dimension.
The Chairman of the State Duma recalled the new formats: the first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba was held in Havana in the end of April, the relevant committees are also interacting.
“The agreement between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba allows us to build communications to discuss specific issues and reach the final results,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He expressed hope that new formats of cooperation would continue to develop in the interests of the nations.
The Chairman of the State Duma also recalled that it is planned to hold the International Parliamentary Conference “Russia-Latin America” in autumn and the delegation of Cuba was also invited to take part in the event.
Manuel Marrero Cruz conveyed to Vyacheslav Volodin words of greetings from the President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández. Manuel Marrero Cruz expressed gratitude to the members of the State Duma for their constant support of Cuba and their efforts aimed at countering the US blockade.
He expressed the wish that relations between the two countries would continue to develop, primarily in the trade and economic areas.
“At all international organizations Cuba supports Russia and strongly condemns all unjust sanctions imposed against your country,” said the Prime Minister of Cuba. “We also stand against all the attempts to isolate Russia and spread Russophobia in the international arena”, he added.
According to Manuel Marrero Cruz, the West has failed to achieve its goals to make Russia weak: “We see that Russia is a stable and strong country”.
