The Chairman of the State Duma stressed that only sovereign nations “have a future”. “You respect your history, care about culture, religion, language and do everything to protect spiritual and moral values. Most importantly, you pursue a policy in the interests of the people of your country,” he stressed.
Despite the pressure, Nepal did not support financial and economic sanctions against Russia, as noted Vyacheslav Volodin. “We appreciate your good attitude towards the Russian Federation and your interest in developing cooperation,” he added.
The Chairman of the State Duma also thanked his colleagues from Nepal for supporting Russia's position at international organizations, in particular the UN resolution prepared by Russia condemning the glorification of Nazism.
New forms of inter-parliamentary cooperation
Bilateral relations should be built “on the principles of mutual respect, friendship, non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states and mutually beneficial cooperation,” as stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
The Chairman of the State Duma proposed to cooperate actively at the level of relevant parliamentary committees to develop the tourism industry. An exhibition about Nepal could be held in the State Duma and could become the first joint event, as said the Chairman of the State Duma. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina thanked Vyacheslav Volodin for such proposal and added that Nepal would definitely take part in it.
Speaking about relations between Russia and Nepal, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina specially noted the dialogue with the Soviet Union and its contribution to the development of Nepal. “Not only now: since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Nepal in 1956, our relations have always been selfless,” stressed the Chairman of the National Assembly. “The Soviet Union provided great assistance just for friendship and development of relations between nations,” he added.
He noted the fact that specialists who were educated in the USSR, especially doctors, constructors and engineers, were highly valued in the country. Now the country needs medical professionals. Ganesh Prasad Timilsina asked Vyacheslav Volodin to consider the possibility of increasing the number of quotas for students from Nepal to get medical education in Russia.
Vyacheslav Volodin thanked for high appreciation of the quality of Russian higher education. The Chairman of the State Duma said that the State Duma would support the request.
