The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
had a telephone conversation with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop.
Vyacheslav Volodin and Mustafa Şentop discussed issues of development of Russia-Turkey inter-parliamentary relations.
The Chairman of the State Duma stressed that “relations between the parliaments of Russia and Turkey are characterized by openness and trust and are built on the principle of non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states.”
Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized that “we will do everything to provide legislative support to decisions taken by the heads of our states.”
Vyacheslav Volodin and Mustafa Şentop discussed a wide range of issues, including the situation in Ukraine.
The Chairman of the State Duma recalled that Russia had sent its proposals on global security issues to the USA and NATO, but those proposals had been rejected.
Vyacheslav Volodin told his Turkish colleague about the goals of the special military operation in Ukraine: “That is the demilitarization and denazification of the country. Ukraine should become an independent, democratic, non-bloc state. That is the only way to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe and death of a huge number of people.”
The Chairman of the State Duma recalled that “members of the State Duma appealed to the President of Russia to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, and then voted for the ratification of treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance.”
Vyacheslav Volodin also told Mustafa Şentop that “the State Duma initiated the creation of a commission to conduct a parliamentary investigation into the activities of biological laboratories in Ukraine, as the US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland confirmed existence of such laboratories. We would like to know more about the purposes and tasks of those laboratories.”
The Chairman of the State Duma also informed his colleague about the Tochka-U missile attack on civilians in Donetsk on March 14: “As a result of this war crime, 21 people were killed and more than 30 people were injured, many buildings were destroyed, and there was heavy material damage.”
At the end of the conversation, Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that “there always has been dialogue with the Turkish side, even in the most difficult times, Russia's position found understanding. And this could be an example for other countries.” The speakers agreed to hold a meeting of a high-level inter-parliamentary commission in Turkey in the near future.
