The round table “Crisis in Russia-US relations and what measures should be taken to overcome it” was held at the State Duma. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov and different experts took part in the event.

He added that the round table was held in advance of the “government hour” with participation of the Minister of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, which is planned to be held in January 2022.
According to the parliamentarian, the issue of cooperation between the two countries “is not only important, but also urgent.” “We also expect that our colleagues within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy, representatives of both chambers, the House of Representatives and the Senate of the US Congress, will liaise with us in the near future. In this case, we will be able to resume the work of the Duma-Congress format,” said the Chairman of the Committee.
Leonid Slutsky stressed that “the current level of tension in relations between the two major nuclear powers, and I would say that it was artificially created, and now it is so alarming that it is necessary to use all formats and return to reason, return to reality and get back to normal, constructive cooperation between Moscow and Washington”.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov noted “a very deep, professional discussion” during the round table.
“We proceed from the fact that our American colleagues are well aware that the situation is quite complicated and tense. A responsible approach is important in this case. We should use the platform, the basis which we have proposed in accordance with the instructions of the President,” he said.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs added that “the European security situation in the light of the proposals on the security guarantees of the Russian Federation, which, on the instructions of the President, we have introduced and handed to the US side and then to NATO” was also discussed at the meeting.
