Issues of Russia-Germany cooperation were discussed at the meeting.

The Chairman of the State Duma Commission informed the German Ambassador about legislative initiatives on counteraction of foreign interference that were being considered in the parliament, and the laws that had already been adopted. Vasilii Piskarev Piskarev Vasily Ivanovich Piskarev

also told about the recent meetings with German parliamentarians that helped to develop a constructive dialogue and enhance cooperation.

“Such meetings demonstrate the willingness of sound and wise politicians to maintain good and friendly Russia-German cooperation in the interests of our citizens,” said the Chairman of the State Duma Commission.

Géza Andreas von Geyr also asked to clarify the recent amendments to the law “On education in the Russian Federation.”

Vasilii Piskarev stressed that all members of the Commission were convinced that promotion of any educational programs in Russian universities should not violate Russian legislation.

The Chairman of the State Duma Commission demonstrated the German Ambassador evidence that authors of several so-called “educational programs” had used illegal content. The Russian parliamentarian stressed that German non-profit organizations and the German Foreign Office supported those programs.

Vasilii Piskarev also drew attention to the “long-term destructive activities of several German non-governmental organizations (NGOs), like Forum of Russian-Speaking Europeans, German-Russian Exchange, Center for Liberal Modernity and Heinrich Böll Foundation, which interfered in Russia’s internal affairs. Those NGOs’ activities were monitored by the State Duma Commission in connection with attempts to justify terrorist activities, to halt Russian fuel and energy projects, to create nationalist and separatist attitude, to promote so-called “non-traditional values” among young people, to discredit Russia's activities in the fight against COVID-19 and to distort Russian history, including the events of the Great Patriotic War.

During the discussion with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Federation, Vasilii Piskarev proposed to join efforts of the two states to enhance cooperation in countering real modern threats and challenges, such as terrorism and extremism, as well as information security issues.

“We consider it inadmissible to involve minors with a help of the Internet in criminal activities and to promote drug use and suicide,” said the Chairman of the Commission.

He stressed the need to establish cooperation in the area of child protection in the information space and suggested addressing large Internet companies with a request to timely moderate and remove criminal content (extremist materials, drug use content, child pornography, etc.).

“We are ready to exchange our legislative experience and provide information to the members of the Bundestag on international security issues and to build good-neighborly relations with German counterparts,” concluded Vasilii Piskarev.
