“Any information about the possible imposition of new sanctions against Russia by the United States and the United Kingdom for using chemical weapons is another provocative planted story against Moscow. It is symbolic that such information appeared on March 5 — on the 75th anniversary of Churchill's speech at Fulton, which divided the world into two camps and began the Cold War. It is obvious that not many things have changed since then. They continue to try to restrain Russia, they declared our country their geopolitical enemy,” said Leonid Slutskiy Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

“The accusations against Russia of violating the UN Chemical Weapons Convention started with the provocation in Salisbury, and then there was “Highly Likely 2.0” situation with the so-called “Berlin patient”. But any allegations of using chemical warfare agents by Russia are nonsense and nothing more,” he said.

The Chairman of the Committee recalled that Russia destroyed last chemical weapons on 27 September 2017 in comply with the UN Chemical Weapons Convention, unlike the United States.

“That was confirmed and verified by the OPCW inspectors when this organization was not used as a political tool by the Western states. There are no chemical weapons on Russian territory,” said Leonid Slutskiy.

“As for the sanctions, they just need a reason for new sanctions and for further demonization of Russia in the global information space. If they impose sanctions, I am convinced we will take retaliatory measures. Let me emphasize it once more, the principle of reciprocity still exists,” he said.
