High level inter-parliamentary commission
Issues related to preparations for the meeting of the High Level Inter-Parliamentary Commission of Russia and Iran were discussed at the meeting.
“We need to concretize our dialogue, we should develop our energy, agricultural and transport cooperation, and create more and more conditions for representatives of business community of Russia and Iran for further development of new projects,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.

Against double standards and trade wars
Chairman of the State Duma noted the specific nature of Russia-Iran cooperation and stressed that both states shared the same views on some issues.
“We are convinced that double standards should not be used and we are countering that together, and we see the harm inflicted by sanctions and trade wars,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
He paid attention to the trade wars launched by the US authorities against Russia, Iran and China, and under certain guises against the European states.
“We see the current energy situation, and that the US is trying to promote its expensive gas on the European market to replace cheap Russian gas. This is the trade war,” said Viacheslav Volodin. He urged to adhere to the UN decisions and to support international institutions opposing interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
Countering terrorism
The meeting participants also discussed possibility of holding the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey on counter-terrorism and strengthening regional cooperation.
“We plan to hold it in Moscow at the end of the year,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
“It is possible to counter terrorism and drug trafficking only together,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma. “It is necessary to address these problems through dialogue, development of common approaches and harmonization of legislation,” added Viacheslav Volodin.
Healthcare and vaccine
The meeting participants also discussed development of cooperation in the field of healthcare and issues related to the fight against the pandemic. During the meeting, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf thanked Russia for the first shipments of the Russian vaccine that had already arrived in Iran. “Today is the first day when we have started using it with relevant sanitary and biological priorities,” said Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
“It is necessary to create all conditions to provide assistance to people, and we consider the position of a number of states, including the United States and the European Union, unacceptable as they impede the delivery of medicines and vaccines,” stressed Viacheslav Volodin.
Search for new formats
The visit to Moscow is the first foreign visit of Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf after his election Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran. The Chairman of the State Duma expressed hope that the visit would help to develop new formats of cooperation between the parliaments of Russia and Iran.
“The pandemic makes the world change, and we should find new formats of communication and think how to develop relations despite the difficulties caused by the spread of the coronavirus infection,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
