said that the administration of the elected US President Joe Biden had not exerted pressure on Nord Stream 2 yet, but the US authorities proposed “to suspend the completion of the project and once again discuss with the allies, colleagues, including from Germany, the feasibility and necessity of its construction.”

Following the meeting of members of the State Duma Committee on Energy with members of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy of the Bundestag that was held via videoconference, Pavel Zavalnyi said that “all members of the Committee and all factions were convinced that Nord Stream 2 should be completed and that Germany and Europe needed it”.

“The Committee will resist all attempts undertaken by the US authorities to suspend the completion of this project,” stressed Pavel Zavalnyi.

He also said that the pipelaying vessel Fortuna should complete construction by the end of May: “There are all opportunities and permits for that.”

The Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy recalled that Germany phased out nuclear and coal energy. “That is one of the reasons why Germany needs our gas,” he said.

Pavel Zavalnyi added that the issue of unauthorized demonstrations, that had recently took place in Russia, was also raised at the meeting. “I replied that Nord Stream 2 had nothing in common with it,” the parliamentarian said. This is an economic project that will bring advantages to Germany, and attempts to halt its completion are disadvantageous to German investor companies. “Events in Russia, all kinds of provocations, I do not understand how they are related to Nord Stream 2,” Pavel Zavalnyi said.

Pavel Zavalnyi also said that German parliamentarians, as well as Russian members of Parliament, were convinced that cooperation and dialogue on issue of renewable energy should be developed. Parliamentarians agreed to continue cooperation on a permanent basis.
