First Deputy
Chairwoman of the Committee on Regional Policy and Problems of North and Far
East, head of the permanent delegation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian
Federation to the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) Valentina Pivnenko
Pivnenko
Valentina Nikolaevna
drew attention to the fact that the speeches of the representatives of the Republic of Lithuania, who chaired the BSPC, did not comply with the meeting’s
agenda.
“Events in Belarus became their priority. The delegation of the Russian Federation clearly, precisely and specifically expressed its opinion on this issue, referring to the agreements and negotiations that had taken place between the foreign ministers, as well as between our President Vladimir Putin and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel on the support by the Russian Federation for policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of Belarus,” said Valentina Pivnenko.
Valentina Pivnenko recalled that Belarus is not the BSPC member state, all applications for membership as an observer had been repeatedly rejected, therefore, it was not right to discuss the situation in that country at the Conference. “The BSPC is not a political organization, and Belarus is neither a member state nor an observer,” the parliamentarian stressed.
“I also referred
to the recent statement of the Chairman of the State Duma, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia Viacheslav Volodin
Volodin
Vyacheslav Victorovich
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
and his Belarusian counterpart, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko, on the inadmissibility of foreign interference in the internal affairs of our countries,”
she added.
“Belarus is an independent, democratic state and the elections were held on the basis of the Constitution and the norms of electoral law,” the parliamentarian stressed.
In addition, the leaders of the Nordic Council also paid attention to the situation in Belarus, instead of the agenda of the meeting.
Another topic of the Conference, according to Valentina Pivnenko, was the issue of sea-dumped weapons and ships at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. This issue was raised by the representative of Poland.
“This issued has been discussed several times within the BSPC framework. According to representatives of the Polish delegation, only the Russian Federation is responsible for all the sea-dumped weapons at the Baltic Sea. I explained that this issue involves not only our two countries, but also the countries — allies during the war years, and they disguise the real situation not only from Russia, but also from others,” said the parliamentarian.
“When a representative of the Polish delegation said that Russia should be blamed for the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, I told him you need that he should know the history”, concluded Valentina Pivnenko.
The 29th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference was held on August 24 via videoconference. 11 countries represented by members of their parliaments, as well as observers from international organizations, are the BSPC participants. Permanent members of the BSPC are the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the parliaments of Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Estonia, as well as some regional parliaments of these countries, including the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg, Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region, Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, Regional Duma of the Kaliningrad Region.
