Inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries are actively developing, in particular, at the level of Speakers and committees.
On April 8–9, 2018, the delegation of the State Duma led by Viacheslav Volodin paid an official visit to Iran. During this visit, the Chairman of the State Duma met with President Hassan Rouhani. Besides, the heads of the chambers signed the Regulation of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
The first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Majlis of Iran, which was co-chaired by Viacheslav Volodin and Ali Larijani, was held in Volgograd on September 6, 2018.
On December 8, 2018, Viacheslav Volodin took part in the 2nd Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey on countering terrorism and strengthening regional cooperation. The Chairman of the State Duma also met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
On April 7, 2019, Viacheslav Volodin met with Ali Larijani on the sidelines of the 140th IPU Assembly in Doha.
On July 1–3, 2019, the Iranian delegation led by First Deputy Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Council of the Islamic Republic Masoud Pezeshkian took part in the 2nd International Forum ”Development of Parliamentarism“ in Moscow.
