held a meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
From the Iranian side, the meeting was attended by Mehdi Sanaei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, Saied Reza Ameli, Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution of Iran, Mohammad Khansari, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution of Iran on Planning and Information Technologies, Hamid Reza Amirinia, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution of Iran on International Cooperation and other officials.
Welcoming the guests, Viacheslav Nikonov noted the important role that the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution of Iran played in the field of culture, science, education, health and all that determines the intellectual potential of the Iranian nation.
“Russia and Iran are now at a very important, advanced stage of their bilateral relations. Our leaders meet regularly, only this year they had four meetings, and this cooperation is extremely fruitful. Both of our countries are under sanctions, but despite this, the volume of bilateral trade between Russia and Iran continues to increase and only this year grew by 25%,” Viacheslav Nikonov said.
The politician emphasized the active development of contacts in the humanitarian, scientific and educational spheres.
In his turn, Mehdi Sanaei expressed satisfaction with the state of Iranian-Russian interaction, including at the level of parliamentary relations, meetings of rectors of higher educational institutions.
The Iranian ambassador separately highlighted the delegation’s interest in the changes that are taking place in society under the influence of new technologies. In his opinion, ”legislative activity plays a crucial role in these changes.“
The parties discussed the impact of the Internet on public life and public consciousness.
Viacheslav Nikonov informed the guests that the State Duma was paying serious attention to this area. According to the politician, this is one of the key issues of the modern world, related to both the problems of security, internal stability and the concept of freedom.
“As to the Committee on Education and Science, our task is, among other things, to ensure broadband Internet to be present at every educational institution so that all children have computer literacy,” the parliamentarian said.
“Besides, we make sure that a sufficient number of specialists in computer and other innovative technologies are educated,” Viacheslav Nikonov added.
He told the guests about Russian scientific programs related to the creation of artificial intelligence, software and computer systems needed for the digital economy.
The meeting participants discussed the prospects for training specialists for innovative areas that appear with the technological progress in these spheres, the direction of scientific, educational and interparliamentary cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the results of the meeting.
