, gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the 11th BRICS
Academic Forum which was opened on September 11 in the capital of Brazil.
In his welcoming remarks, the parliamentarian recalled the forum participants the traditional values that unite the BRICS countries, as well as the basis of a mutually beneficial and trusting dialogue that allowed the Five to create a new model of international relations.
“BRICS is not only a community of countries, but also a community of values”, believes Viacheslav Nikonov.
”Western values are good. No one objects democracy, human rights and everything else. But there are other important values that are more common in our countries and peoples than solely western,“ the parliamentarian said.
Viacheslav Nikonov explained that he spoke about justice, self-respect, independence, non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, commitment to dialogue, respect for cultural diversity, the principles of pluralism and rule of international law.
“We accept one another just as we are, and this is very important,” the head of the Russian delegation emphasized.
According to Viacheslav Nikonov, due to many years of joint work and common values, the BRICS countries are already changing the world for the better, bringing a new type of interaction to it, which in the future should become a model for cooperation of all humanity.
The opening ceremony of the Forum was also attended by President of the Institute of Applied Economic Research Carlos von Doellinger, Brazil BRICS Sherpa Leonardo Fernandez, Honorable Member of the Indian Observer Research Foundation H.H.S. Viswanathan, Deputy General Director of the Research Center of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Secretary General Chinese National Council of BRICS Research Centers Dong Weihua, Head of the Department of Political Sciences of University of Pretoria, Chairman of South African BRICS Research Centre Siphamandla Zondi.
