visited Slovakia, where it held several meetings with representatives of the country's leadership, and also took part in celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Slovak national liberation uprising against the fascist occupation. Russian parliamentarians laid wreaths at the Slavín monument, the memorial to the Slovak National Uprising in Banska Bystrica, and also took part in a military parade.
“Today, when the pages of history are carefully re-written by scriptwriters from across the ocean, the memory of the heroic deeds and the joint struggle of the fraternal peoples is very important,” said Petr Tolstoy. He also thanked the leadership of the Slovak Republic for the invitation: “It is a great honor for us to take part in the celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the liberation of Slovakia (then Czechoslovakia) from Nazism, to pay tribute to the heroes.”
Besides, on the sidelines of the event, the delegation met Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Andrej Danko, Prime Minister of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš and President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Radek Vondráček.
“During the meetings, we discussed the possibility of reviving economic cooperation through the intensification of inter-parliamentary contacts with the involvement of our countries' business for the implementation of projects in Russia. Shared history and geography are things that cannot be changed. The fact that we spoke Russian is also evidence of this,” said Petr Tolstoy.
