The meeting of the Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin and the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Ardashir Larijani was held within the framework of the Third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments in Antalya.
The parties discussed the issues of the agenda of the Meeting, topics important for both countries, including economic cooperation and environment, as well as an agreement on the nuclear program of Iran.
”We note the exacerbation of American policy. They [the US authorities] pose challenges for all countries, and it requires other countries to work together,“ said Ali Ardashir Larijani. He stressed that Iran, despite the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, continues to act on the basis of these agreements. Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran noted the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in resolving this problem. Let us remind that the President of the United States Donald Trump said on May 8 that Washington withdrew from the agreement on the nuclear program of Iran and re-imposed related sanctions.
Ali Ardashir Larijani said that he commended the relations between Russia and Iran. ”The inter-parliamentary cooperation is developing, as well as cooperative work in the banking and oil sectors,“ he said.
In addition, during the meeting the parties discussed plans for holding an International Conference on Terrorism and Interregional Cooperation in Tehran (it was held in Islamabad in 2017). Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the State Duma for the efforts he had made in this matter.
