The discussion is focused on issues of climate change and growing environmental challenges that cannot be faced alone.
”Russia has
traditionally been actively involved in the ASEP work. We consider it a good
and useful platform for dialogue, exchange of experience and formulation specific
proposals. This time the theme of the meeting is ecology and climate change. We
can see how natural disasters are intensifying in our world. Recent examples
are devastating hurricanes in the Philippines and the United States, there were human casualties involved. More than 900 natural hazards occurred last year in Russia.
We need each state to take concrete steps to minimize the negative impact of human
on the environment, even at the legislative level. This is what we should

The Federation Council is represented at the meeting by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrei Klimov and Deputy Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Irina Gekht.
During the meeting, parliamentarians also plan to address issues of sustainable development and a closed loop, circular economy, cooperation in the field of water resources, waste treatment and reduction of the use of plastic, environmentally friendly technologies. Attention will also be paid to the issues of reduction greenhouse gases and implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP) is an important part of the overall process of cooperation in the framework of the Asia–Europe Meeting. The task of ASEP is to promote mutual understanding between the peoples and states of Asia and Europe. The members of the organization are 38 parliaments and the European Parliament.
