The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
met a delegation from the Fatherland Front of Vietnam
headed by Chairman of its Central Committee Trần Thanh Mẫn.
The sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Russian-Vietnamese bilateral relations, stated their high level and great potential for further development. This applies both to the political sphere and to the sphere of trade and economic cooperation, where significant additional opportunities for growth were noted.
The parties called for further development and improvement of forms of interparliamentary cooperation with an emphasis on using mechanisms of parliamentary control over the implementation of bilateral agreements between Russia and Vietnam.
Ivan Melnikov told about the initiative of the Chairman of the State Duma on the establishment of a high-level Russian-Vietnamese interparliamentary commission.
Ivan Melnikov and Trần Thanh Mẫn noted the importance of developing inter-party relations, as well as interaction within the social organizations of the two countries, and stressed the importance of transferring the relay race of friendship between the peoples of Russia and Vietnam to the younger generation as one of the most important tasks in the sphere of bilateral relations.
