The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Khin Yi.

The parties met on the sidelines of the “Great Heritage – Common Future” International Forum in Brest to discuss development of Russian-Myanmar interparliamentary cooperation.

“We support development of interparliamentary relations. We think it is high time for us to look for new cooperation formats and use every possibility we have,” Volodin said.

The State Duma Chairman thanked Khin Yi and other Myanmar colleagues for participation in the “Great Heritage – Common Future” forum, noting that the meeting took place on a special day – 22 June, the day of remembrance of everyone who gave their life in the Great Patriotic War.

“This shows once again that we have a common view: we must combat all manifestations of Nazism, do everything possible to maintain peace on the planet,” Volodin said. “A lot of foreign delegations have come to Brest to commemorate those who have sacrificed their life fighting against fascism; they understand how much hardship this war brought and how strong the enemy was, and they pay respects to those who died protecting our country and the entire world from the scourge of fascism.”

Khin Yi shared his impression about participation in the requiem meeting commemorating the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. “I saw that the Soviet people were strong and powerful, and I saw how bravely they defended their Motherland, their land. I too was a soldier once and I can feel their might, their love for their country, and their resolve when defending Brest Fortress. For our country, such people in your country, the Soviet people, are a role model,” he said.

Vyacheslav Volodin invited the Myanmar Speaker to Russia for an official visit and asked the Speaker to give his best regards to Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, with whom he met last year in Moscow.

The parties also discussed development of bilateral interaction in economic and humanitarian spheres as well as interregional cooperation.
