“The head of the Government of Armenia Pashinyan is doing everything to make Armenia an EU member. So there is a question: why he cannot name the real goals he is pursuing and the real problems he is trying to solve,” said the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
in an interview to Natalia Litovko for Rossiya 24 TV channel.

The Chairman of the State Duma noted the fact that, on the one hand, it looks like they have already made a decision and created a legal basis: adopted laws to join the European Union, to extent jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court on the territory of Armenia, and on the other hand, they make statements and express will to stay the EAEU member and build relations with Russia.

“What kind of relations are these? Consumer? Just to use our country to reach a new level and join the European Union? That is dishonest. We are against these lies, these double standards,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.

According to him, Russia has been providing assistance to Armenia and its citizens for a long time, including, by supplying energy resources at a price four times cheaper than the European one. “If we analyze money transfers – two thirds of transfers from the Russian Federation go to Armenia. And if we mention sales market: Russia is Armenia’s key partner,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Chairman of the State Duma urged the leadership of Armenia to talk openly about their intentions both with the counterparts and people. “Go and join the European Union, if you share their moral values. Yes, LGBT is banned in our country. We consider it important to treat our history with care, we have other principles,” he said.

Talking about economic issues, Vyacheslav Volodin noted the obvious losses for Armenia if it becomes EU member. “We remember that there was almost the same situation in Ukraine when there were talks about the European Union that if such decision had been adopted, the economy would have been developed. But they do not allow sending the Ukrainian products to the European markets. They are uncompetitive in Europe. And what will Armenia sell?” he stressed.

The Chairman of the State Duma is convinced that Armenia will lose its identity, just as it happened to Ukraine. “And that is really pity. Leaders of Armenia lead their country toward the abyss. We stand for honest, open relations and, of course, for mutually beneficial cooperation. Friendship is a two-way street,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
