held a meeting with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Margarida Adamugy Talapa.
Alexander Babakov noted the great significance of friendship of Russia and Mozambique that has deep roots and started in the times of the national liberation struggle of Africa for independence. He recalled that in 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states.
“This is an important milestone and a good reason to summarize some results and outline prospects for our future cooperation. Our states have an effective cooperation on the international stage and it is based on the closeness and coincidence of the positions on key global and regional issues. We highly appreciate Mozambique’s neutrality on the situation in Ukraine and around it,” emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma.
The interaction at the level of parliamentary friendship groups could be a good tool for further enhancement of relations between our states, as said Alexander Babakov.
Against the background of development of political dialogue, there should also be given a new impetus to the trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Mozambique, as added Alexander Babakov. Next Russia-Africa Summit which is planned to be held this autumn in Moscow can strengthen the economic cooperation.
“We are truly interested in developing and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation with the State Duma of the Russian Federation,” emphasized Margarida Adamugy Talapa. “We are convinced that we could learn many useful things from the experience of the State Duma of the Russian Federation in various fields, including in the legislative,” she added.
She stressed that in November 2025 the Assembly of Mozambique created a parliamentary league of cooperation and friendship with Russia.
“We are convinced that it will give a new dynamic to development of inter-parliamentary relations, relations between our institutions and states. In 2022 we signed a Memorandum of understanding between the Parliaments of the Russian Federation and Mozambique. And the day before we signed a programme of specific action which will contribute to further deepening of mutual cooperation at the inter-parliamentary level,” emphasized Margarida Adamugy Talapa.
