In Changchun, members of the State Duma learned more about the history of the city and Jilin Province.
They visited the Chinese Eastern Railway Museum, which is located in the building of the former consulate of the Russian Empire. The Chinese Eastern Railway built by Russian engineers in the late 19th century crossed the territory of Manchuria and connected Chita with Vladivostok and Port Arthur. The exhibitions display the history of the railway, which played a special role in the development of the region.
The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov
Ivan Ivanovich
asked the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee
of the People's Congress of Jilin Province Hao Gokung to create a Russian
Friendship House on the basis of the museum.
“Here, our Chinese friends could learn more about the customs and culture of our country. Exhibitions, concerts, Russian film festivals could be held here. We would help you establish contacts with our museums that are interesting to you, so that cooperation can develop actively,” he suggested.
According to Ivan Melnikov, if such a proposal is supported, he will ask the Russia-China Friendship Society, which he heads, together with the Russian Foreign Ministry, Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian consulate to help and propose a concept for creating such a Russian House.
