The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
and members of the State Duma paid tribute to the heroism of Soviet soldiers who fought for liberation of Korea from Japanese
colonial rule in 1945.
Vyacheslav Volodin and the State Duma delegation laid flowers at the monument to fallen soldiers at the Soviet Memorial Cemetery in Pyongyang, where the soldiers and officers of the Red Army who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Korea were buried, and at the Memorial Stone honoring the heroism of Soviet pilots who defended the skies of Korea in 1950–1953.
The Chairman of the State Duma and members of the State Duma also laid a wreath and flowers at the Liberation Monument, honoring the memory of Soviet soldiers and officers with a minute of silence.
A 30-meter granite stele with a red star on top was built in the center of Pyongyang on Moranbong Hill in 1946 as a symbol of gratitude of the Korean people to Soviet soldiers.
The bas-relief shows a Soviet soldier and a Korean patriot shoulder to shoulder. There are two inscriptions in Russian and Korean at the foot of the monument. One of them says: “The great Soviet people defeated the Japanese imperialists and liberated the Korean people. The blood shed by Soviet soldiers during the liberation of Korea has served to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the Korean and Soviet peoples. This monument was erected to signify the gratitude of the Korean people. August 15, 1945.” The inscription on the back side is: “Eternal glory to the great Soviet Army that liberated the Korean people from the Japanese imperialists and showed them the way to freedom and independence! August 15, 1945.”
Vyacheslav Volodin noted the importance of protecting and preserving the historical memory of the feats of soldiers and officers. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the DPRK and the Korean people for their respect for common history, careful attitude to memorials and burials of Soviet soldiers who died in battles for the liberation of the country.
The Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and the delegation of the State Duma are paying an official visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at the invitation of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly. The day before, the Chairman of the State Duma met with the Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un. Earlier, the Chairman of the State Duma discussed new formats of inter-parliamentary cooperation with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Choe Ryong-hae.
