, a member of the Committee on Safeguarding Competition, held a meeting with a delegation of the Friendship Group on Cooperation with Russia of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia (the upper house of the Parliament of Namibia).

Opening the meeting, Irina Filatova congratulated the delegation and the people of Namibia on the inauguration of the first female President of the Republic, Ms. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as well as the election of the National Assembly of Namibia, and wished them peace, well-being and prosperity.

“We are convinced that under the leadership of the new President, the Republic of Namibia will continue its way to prosperity, strengthening democratic institutions and improving the well-being of its citizens,” said Irina Filatova.

The parliamentarian noted that despite the long-term economic recession (2016–2021), Namibia had demonstrated sustainable economic growth and declining inflation. She also thanked the people of the Republic for their commitment to historically friendly relations with Russia and comprehensive support at the international level during a difficult period for the Russian Federation.

Irina Filatova noted that on May 9, the Ambassador of Namibia to Russia, Mr. Clemens Handuukeme Kashuupulwa, attended the parade on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War on Red Square, and a celebratory auto rally was held in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek.

“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries on the day of the proclamation of Namibia's independence on March 21, 1990, there have been maintained stable inter-parliamentary ties. And I would like to assure you that the parliamentary group is ready to do everything to strengthen and develop relations between our countries, which are an important tool for developing bilateral dialogue and exchanging experience,” said Irina Filatova.

The meeting participants agreed to develop Russia-Namibia trade and economic ties and comprehensive parliamentary cooperation.

The foreign parliamentarians asked to consider an issue of studying the Russian language in the country. They also called energy, including nuclear and solar energy, geological exploration, agriculture, tourism and cultural exchange as the most promising sectors of Russia-Namibia cooperation.

“We will continue our interaction with representatives of the upper house of the Parliament of Namibia. We expect to see our guests in June at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the International Forum of Technological Development “TECHNOPROM-2025”, which will be held in Novosibirsk in August,” added Irina Filatova.

The meeting participants agreed that such meetings could give new impetus to cooperation between the two countries and noted its highest level.
