“The statements that make the modern politicians who want to rewrite history offend us. They differ a lot from what their predecessors, the leaders of these states, said,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia Vyacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

, during the plenary session of the International Forum of the Union State of Belarus and Russia “Great Heritage — Common Future”.

According to the Chairman of the State Duma, it would be right for modern European politicians to reread the memoirs of their predecessors — Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt and Charles de Gaulle. “Each of them recognized the decisive role of the Soviet Union in the defeat of fascism, admired the courage, self-sacrifice and unity of the Soviet people,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.

“Years have passed: we see that those who took their place began to rewrite history, distort it. Moreover, they began to insult the memory of those who died defending the Great Britain, France, the United States of America, and other countries. Therefore, our duty is to do everything to protect history,” said Vyacheslav Volodin addressing the Forum participants.

“Everything can be forgiven, except one thing — the desecration of the memory of fallen soldiers and officers who are not able to defend themselves. We must be uncompromising and do everything to protect our common history,” he emphasized.

According to Vyacheslav Volodin, the leaders of the European Union in their demands “have lost not only their conscience, but have also gone mad.” “Because only a cynical, crazy person can prohibit people from honoring the memory of their grand-fathers, the memory of the victors,” he added.

On April 28–30, 2025, at the initiative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, the International Forum “Great Heritage – Common Future” is being held in the hero city of Volgograd and it is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The parliamentary delegations of the CIS member states, friendly countries of Europe, Asia and Latin America, public figures, representatives of the scientific community, as well as international experts, are participating in the International Forum.
