Vyacheslav Volodin and Om Birla discussed topical issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Russia and India

Vyacheslav Victorovich The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast) held negotiations with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of the Republic of India Om Birla.

The issues related to more effective inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and the necessary legislative decisions for implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.

Vyacheslav Volodin expressed gratitude to Om Birla for the invitation to pay a visit to India.

The dialogue between Russia and India is based on mutual respect, trust and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, according to Vyacheslav Volodin. “The bilateral trade is growing, our humanitarian ties are getting stronger, but we should not stop, we should try to create a legislative basis within the parliamentary dimension to make development of our relations even more dynamically,” added the Chairman of the State Duma. The task of parliamentarians is to provide legislative support to implement the decisions taken at the level of heads of states, according to him.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted the necessity to enhance the work of the joint inter-parliamentary commission. He invited again the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India to visit Moscow.

“It would be right to establish systemic relations so that we could hold meetings annually, discuss current issues within our powers,” the Chairman of the State Duma addressed his colleague.

He also noted the necessity to build interaction at the level of relevant committees of the State Duma and the Lok Sabha.

Vyacheslav Volodin also invited members of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India to take part in the International Conference on the development of parliamentarism, which will be held in Moscow this summer.

The Chairman of the State Duma is paying an official visit to the Republic of India at the invitation of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India Om Birla. Issues of cooperation between Russia and India in economic, socio-cultural, educational and technological areas, as well as further development of inter-parliamentary dialogue will be discussed during the visit. Vyacheslav Volodin has already met with the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha of the Parliament, Vice President of the Republic Jagdeep Dhankhar.
