As long as the EU is a useful tool for Washington to make decisions favorable to the US, corrupt officials and criminals will continue to run European institutions, Vyacheslav Volodin says

In November, the symbolically reelected members of the European Commission start working, in December the same will happen to the European Council, says Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, in his Telegram-channel. He notes that “Washington has sneaked the politicians involved in corruption into all the leading positions of the European Union.”

“The motives are clear: it needs those who are manipulable and obedient. They are ready to conduct and make any decisions favorable to the United States to the detriment of citizens and European states,” he believes.

For example, Ursula von der Leyen who is the Head of the European Commission. As Vyacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

mentioned, by her decision, a large-scale purchase of 4.5 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which had not been properly tested at that moment, was made for the sum of 70 billion euros. At a conservative estimate, there were nine vaccines for each EU resident, he said.

“Only through wide media coverage did the scandal develop into investigation not only against the CEO of the pharmaceutical company but also against Ursula von der Leyen’s husband, owner of an American biotech laboratory that had been developing the same vaccine. On November 15, the court hearings are going to begin,” the Chairman of the State Duma emphasized.

“Roberta Metsola is the President of the European Parliament. Under the new code of ethics, she has excluded herself from the list of the EP members who shall report conflicts of interest,” Vyacheslav Volodin said.

At the same time, her husband is a key lobbyist for one of the world’s largest companies, i.e., cruise ship operators which is a major polluter of the environment, the Chairman of the State Duma pointed out. “In the wake of earlier decisions on green policy, it was Metsola’s husband’s company that applied to the EU for funding for research of fuel cells,” he added. Roberta Metsola’s name had been mentioned before in other corruption scandals, the State Duma Speaker said.

“António Costa is to take over as President of the European Council on December 1. Costa promptly resigned as Portugal’s prime minister last November amid a scandal over his aides facilitating investment agreements for lithium and green hydrogen mining projects. About 80,000 euros in cash, packaged in envelopes, were discovered at his chief of staff,” Vyacheslav Volodin said. According to the Chairman of the State Duma, Costa is still a witness in the case, and they are trying to pin the blame on his namesake.

“Corruption is devouring the EU institutions. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has recently announced another case of misuse of funds by a group of MPs from the largest faction in the European Parliament, i.e., the European People’s Party. But, just as in all of the above cases, the investigation is likely to be swept under the rug,” Vyacheslav Volodin said.

As long as the European Union is a useful tool for Washington to make decisions favorable to the US, corrupt officials and criminals will continue to run European institutions, the Chairman of the State Duma is sure. “Birds of a feather flock together,” he believes.
