held a meeting with the Chairman
of the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman Khalid Bin Hilal Al Maawali. The Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman is paying an official visit to Russia at the invitation of Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Voloidin and Khalid Bin Hilal Al Maawali discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Russia and Oman, as well as promising areas of economic cooperation. The Chairman of the State Duma noted traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Oman and added that the visit of the Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman to Moscow would give a new impetus to the development of relations between the legislative chambers of the two countries.
Vyacheslav Volodin also noted the contribution of the leaders of the countries — Vladimir Putin and Haitham bin Tariq Al Said — to the development of relations between Russia and Oman. “The main task of legislators is to do everything for the implementation of agreements and decisions taken at the level of heads of states,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.
“We believe it would be right to discuss new formats of cooperation so that we could address the current issues, contribute to the development of relations between our nations,” he said.
Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to sign an agreement on cooperation between the State Duma and the Shura Council of Oman to develop inter-parliamentary dialogue. “We have all capabilities to increase the pace of interaction,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
“We in the Shura Council really want to strengthen relations with the Parliament of the Russian Federation — with the State Duma – and use all the tools that will help us to develop our relations,” emphasized Khalid Bin Hilal Al Maawali.
Russia and Oman share the same positions on a number of issues of international cooperation and the international agenda, according to Vyacheslav Volodin. “Together we stand for a just world order, for a multipolar world. Our nations support the preservation of traditional values, the institution of family, historical memory, and religion,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Volodin also expressed gratitude to his Omani colleagues for supporting the Russian resolution against the glorification of Nazism at the UN General Assembly. “The position of the Sultanate of Oman at all UN platforms is to always support justice in all respects,” emphasized the Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman.
Particular attention at the meeting was also paid to the socio-economic cooperation between the two countries, and the development of interaction in the field of tourism.
According to the Chairman of the State Duma, it would be right to create favorable conditions to increase mutual investments. “We are talking about building a new infrastructure in the financial and banking sector, using national currencies, payment systems independent from Western countries,” he added.
