The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with the Speaker of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Zambia Nelly Mutti. Issues of development of inter-parliamentary dialogue between Russia and Zambia were discussed at the meeting.
“The relations between our countries have been tested by time. We are doing everything to build them on an equal basis of non-interference in internal affairs, developing mutually beneficial cooperation,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
He recalled that the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is marked in 2024. “The Soviet Union was the first state to recognize the independence of your state. We are trying to do everything to maintain these relations, established many decades ago by our predecessors,” he added.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of Zambia to Russia would contribute to further strengthening of the dialogue between the legislators of the two countries. He also proposed to create a friendship group between the State Duma and the Parliament of Zambia to build communication.
“This is my first visit to Russia, to Moscow, so we are very glad that we have the opportunity to pay a visit to the country that has been a friend of Zambia for a very long time, even before we became independent — before 1964. The USSR was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with our country: as I remember, just six days after we gained independence. We are very grateful for this, and we would like to further enhance our relations based on friendship, aimed at mutually beneficial development,” emphasized Nelly Mutti.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Zambia supported the intention to enhance bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.
