On May 22, 2024, the Second Conference “Parliamentarians for Peace” was held via videoconference. The Russian delegation was represented by members of the State Duma factions, members of the Committee on International Affairs and parliamentary groups on cooperation with the parliaments of Central and South American countries.

“There are tens of thousands of kilometers and many time zones between us, but we still hold meetings and communicate, at least via videoconference, because we have common goals, a similar vision of the world,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov Melnikov Ivan Ivanovich Melnikov

“Russia has always stood and stands for an equal and mutually respectful dialogue and the development of solutions that take into account the interests of all participants. Unlike the countries of the collective West, we do not impose our point of view, but try to develop coordinated ideas to address relevant economic, security, humanitarian cooperation issues, and counter modern threats,” emphasized Ivan Melnikov.

According to the parliamentarian, it is necessary to ensure information, food and medical and biological security in the modern era.

“In the era of building a new multipolar world, it is more important than ever to ensure all kind of security in the word: not only national security in its classical sense, in the modern era it is necessary to ensure information, food, medical and biological security,” stressed Ivan Melnikov.

The desire of cross-border corporations acting in the interests of Washington to control the media and social networks poses a threat to the sovereign development of society, according to the parliamentarian. He added that artificial intelligence could also become a new threat if not to take deterrent measures.

“In 2023, the State Duma held large and representative international parliamentary conferences “Russia — Latin America” and “Russia — Africa”, and this year we have decided to hold an International Parliamentary Forum “Development of Parliamentarism”, which will bring together rational members of parliaments, aimed at developing a unifying agenda, and experts from all countries of the world,” recalled Ivan Melnikov. The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma invited the Conference participants to take part in it.
