The deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation express extreme indignation and outrage at the cynical insult to the memory of the soldiers of the anti-Hitler coalition committed at the meeting of the House of Commons of Canada on September 22, 2023. It was deemed possible by the Canadian legislators to welcome in the Canadian Parliament Yaroslav Hunka, a Nazi veteran, 98-year-old SS member, who served under the ruthless Third Reich during the Second World War in the Waffen-SS “Galicia” division. This mayhem coincided with the Canadian authorities’ hosting of Volodymyr Zelensky, the leader of the current Ukrainian regime, the ideological heir of collaborator Hunka, who is making another world tour in order to raise funds for the massacre he involved the Ukrainian people in. Members of the Canadian government headed by Prime Minister Trudeau, Western diplomats accredited in Ottawa, and activists of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada also participated in this ritual celebration.
The genuine affinity of the Canadian authorities, channeled from Washington and Brussels, is evidenced by the fact that the pro-fascist ceremony was freely broadcast in the Canadian media, and it was only the wave of criticism and protests from all over the world that forced the organizers of this event to try to save the situation. The ridiculous excuses of the Speaker of the lower house of Parliament and the Prime Minister of Canada based on lack of information about Hunka do not stand up under any criticism.
The deputies of the State Duma consider this egregious event to be not an accident, but another step in the deliberate and calibrated strategy of Canada and the West as a whole to rewrite history to suit the political conjuncture. It has become quite obvious why Canada and a number of other Western countries, as well as Ukraine which has joined them, have not supported the anti-fascist resolutions of the UN General Assembly for a long time, which combat the glorification of Nazism and which are voted for by the vast majority of the countries.
Russia honors its real heroes – the Red Army soldiers and servicemen of the anti-Hitler coalition countries, including those Canadian heroes who gave their lives to fight fascism. During the Second World War, more than 45,000 Canadian citizens died a hero’s death, whose graves have been dishonored by the Parliament and Government of Canada. They have grossly violated international law by trying to whitewash war criminals, sadists and murderers, in particular Ukrainian SS soldiers, who were responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Soviet, Polish, Slovak and other civilians. The Nuremberg Tribunal explicitly condemned their crimes, which are beyond the statute of limitations. Such actions aimed at glorifying Nazism in legislative bodies are also subject to judicial proceedings.
The sacred memory of the tens of millions of victims of the Second World War who were killed by the Nazis and their collaborators, such as Hunka, can never be forgotten.
The deputies of the State Duma state that they are ready for constructive cooperation with all fellow parliamentarians who share our anti-fascist views and beliefs and who are ready to firmly confront with us such attempts to glorify Ukronazis and other Nazis of all kinds and their supporters, to fight against the promotion of enmity among nations, racism, neo-fascism, Russophobia and other anti-human phobias, as well as to support the popularization of historical facts and memory of the heroes of the Second World War, who at the cost of their lives won our right to live, love, work, raise children and be happy.
