According to the bill, “foreign citizens who signed a contract on service in the Russian Armed Forces, army or military formations for at least a year will be able to obtain citizenship of Russia under a simplified procedure without obtaining a residence permit”.

According to the existing legislation, foreign citizens should serve in the army under contract for at least three years.

In addition, the amendments propose to reduce from five years to one year the period for which the first service contract is concluded with a foreign citizen entering military service with the ranks of a soldier, sailor, sergeant and sergeant major.
