According to him, there is a growing demand for the formation of a more just and democratic order of international relations, which should be based on the independent policy of states pursued in the interests of their citizens.
Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that “only sovereign states have prospects for development.”
“Global challenges create an opportunity for BRICS, which has become an alternative platform for equal dialogue on such issues, like development, strengthening peace and stability,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma. “Our cooperation is based on the principles of openness, mutual respect and trust, and the absence of double standards.”
According to him, the parliaments of the BRICS states should find together new approaches to address the issues of strategic stability, work together to counter challenges and threats.
“It is important to emphasize that BRICS is the economy of the future. Even today, our association plays a significant role on the world stage. I want to emphasize that BRICS offers a positive agenda that is not directed against anyone. There are no states within the association that are trying to block any of the countries,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
The main topic of the Forum, which was held via videoconference, was the role of legislative bodies in the development of high-quality partnership
within the framework of BRICS.

The 1st BRICS Parliamentary Forum was held on 8 June 2015 in Moscow, as it was the year of Russia’s chairmanship in the association. 2022 is the year of China’s chairmanship in BRICS.
