The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
posted on his Telegram channel that the European Parliament had called for a deep reform of the European Union, and revocation of the principle of joint decision-making was one of the approved decisions.

“In other words, it is proposed to forgo veto powers of the EU member states. The opinion of individual states, and their citizens, will no longer be taken into account,” he stressed.

According to him, the situation related to imposition of anti-Russian sanctions has proved that there is no unity between the EU member states on this issue, so they have to find other forms of making decisions, abandoning the longstanding principles.

“Millions of people in Europe will be deprived of their right to vote. Their states will lose their sovereignty,” the Chairman of the State Duma stressed.

He also wondered who would be responsible when the citizens of a particular country see the rising prices, unemployment, economic problems as a result of decisions made without taking into account their opinion.

“If the EU member states want to preserve sovereignty and defend the interests of their citizens, they have only one way — to leave the European Union,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
