The decision to support the President's proposal was aimed at bringing peace, as he said. “I mean bringing peace not only to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, but to the whole Europe,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
He drew attention to the fact that the decision to ratify the treaties was unanimously supported by members of the State Duma, despite their different political programs and views of the factions.
Vyacheslav Volodin added that the decision of the President was the only right solution in a situation, as the world was on the brink of war.
“That was the decision which helped to stop war and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
On sanctions pressure
“We have been under the continuing sanctions pressure for eight years,” Vyacheslav Volodin said. He is convinced that the LPR and DPR recognition will not influence the possible decision on new Western sanctions.
“If there was no such decision, sanctions would have been announced in any case. You should recall the pretexts for introduction of the previous sanctions. They were absolutely groundless. But they had been imposed. There is only one goal — to halt the development of our country,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma. He added that maybe this decision will make “those politicians who tried to do harm think if it is it really necessary to confront Russia.”
“Russia has done everything to save millions of human lives and to prevent war activities that would spare no one. Washington and Brussels should realize that. As for Kiev, it is very pity that the citizens, the country, the fact that such people live under such Ukrainian leadership. As it was their fault in the current situation,” he said.
The Chairman of the State Duma added that for eight years the leadership of Ukraine had not made decisions, had not conduct dialogue, had not implemented the Minsk agreements. “This could lead to enormous human losses and a humanitarian catastrophe,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He recalled that our President had recently held many negotiations with representatives of foreign states, but all of them “do not care about people living in Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, do not think about Ukraine, but only about their own interests, which are contrary to the interests of citizens of Ukraine and DPR and LPR.”
The Chairman of the State Duma stressed that the DPR and LPR sovereignty recognition had already been supported by Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. “We hope that other countries will support such decision and will not try to “be good” for everyone, because such position will not do any good,” he said.
On the ruble exchange rate situation
“Risks are being assessed, but the economy of our country is developing, it manages to address the challenges. Therefore, you should trust your national currency, in any case, as for me, I always proceed from this. Therefore, we should think about the development of our country. Then the situation with the ruble will get better and it will become stronger,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
On inter-parliamentary relations with DPR and LPR
The Chairman of the State Duma said that the State Duma would establish inter-parliamentary relations with DPR and LPR.
“Definitely we will do that. We should not waste time. We will try to hold discussions on these issues next week, as it will be a regional one. And then we will create a special format which will help us to work on solving specific issues, and we will do our best to ensure that our dialogue at the inter-parliamentary level benefits people living in DPR and LPR and in the Russian Federation,” he said and added that it was necessary to take care of the Russian citizens living on the territory of those republics.
