Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast) , nominated by the United Russia faction, was elected the Chairman of the State Duma of the eighth convocation.

360 out of 450 members of the State Duma, four out of five factions of the State Duma supported his candidacy.

Earlier, the Russian President Vladimir Putin endorsed the nomination of Vyacheslav Volodin as the Chairman of the State Duma.
