The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
noted the ongoing development of Russia-Serbia cooperation.

“Relations between our states are developing dynamically, and we should note the great contribution of our presidents — President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

“We try to find new ways of cooperation: we continue our inter-parliamentary contacts within the framework of friendship groups, and we have started to use a format of a high-level joint commission,” recalled the Chairman of the State Duma.

He added that it would help the parliaments of the two states to enhance their cooperation and contribute to strengthening of Russia-Serbia cooperation.

“In this regard, it would be right to discuss issues that may be included in the agenda of the inter-parliamentary commission,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

“We propose to discuss three key issues within the framework of the high-level commission. First issue is development of our economic cooperation. Second issue is implementation of humanitarian projects, and the most important thing that should be discussed is establishment of the Institute of historical memory in Belgrade. This project was initiated by the parliaments of our countries. And, of course, we should discuss interaction and building relations on international platforms to support each other, strengthen, defend the interests of the citizens of Russia and Serbia. We both will benefit greatly from that,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.

Meeting of the High-level Inter-parliamentary Commission is planned to be held in Belgrade this autumn.

International cooperation

Viacheslav Volodin noted the effective work of Russia and Serbia at international organizations, for example, at PACE.

“We share the same point of view on some issues. We are convinced that interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states is inadmissible. Especially when it comes to imposition of values. We have our own history, culture, traditions and religion. And it is unacceptable when some states use international institutions are try to impose their standards and values to our states,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.

He also proposed to enhance cooperation between the specialized committees of the Parliaments of Russia and Serbia and to develop more effective cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

“I invite you to take part in the CSTO PA events. The meeting will be held on July 1 in Tajikistan. We would be glad to see you at this parliamentary platform,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.

Viacheslav Volodin also invited Serbian parliamentarians to observe the elections to the State Duma.

Strategic partnership

Viacheslav Volodin invited Ivica Dacic to address members of the State Duma at the plenary meeting on June 2.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia stressed that this was his first foreign visit after his appointment and he was very glad to pay a visit to Moscow. “We remain committed to further development of fraternal relations,” he stressed.

“We have high-level cooperation, the same as the cooperation between our presidents is. We have a strategic partnership and common interests, common issues and challenges. Unity and solidarity are very important at this time,” said Ivica Dacic.

He also expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the provided support in protecting its territorial integrity in Kosovo and Metohija.

“I would like to say it once again that Serbia will never support sanctions against the Russian Federation, imposed by international organizations or certain states,” stressed the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia.
