The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
referred to cases of Julian Assange and Edward Snowden. In his opinion, both of them did not act in the interests of any states or financial corporations, while they exposed the truth to the world. He mentioned that in his Telegram channel.

The Chairman of the State Duma also noted that if Julian Assange and Edward Snowden had made similar discoveries and publications about Russia, China and some other states competing with the US, “there would be a lot of statements defending and glorifying them as freedom fighters.”

“Russia follows the principle of non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states. But in the current situation, it would be right to give assessment of the actions of the authorities of those states where human rights are violated, and to support human rights defenders victimized by these regimes: in the United States, these are citizens who tried to discuss the election results and were accused of terrorism and will spend up to 25 years in prison, and in the Baltic states, Ukraine and the UK — convicted and persecuted persons,” stressed Viacheslav Volodin.

“For my part, I will definitely review materials about those people who protected the rights of citizens and are victimized by the authorities of these states,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
