commented on the IOC decision to postpone the Olympics 2020

Svetlana Zhurova believes that “in this situation, the decision was made in the interests of athletes. Not everyone will be able to prepare for the Olympics under quarantine; in some countries, the gyms are closed. Where then should they train? Countries where there is no strict quarantine get an advantage, so I understand those who proposed to postpone the Games. IOC does not need scandals. They hoped until the last minute that the virus would not spread so quickly.”

On March 24, in a telephone conversation between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, head of the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee Yoshirō Mori and IOC head Thomas Bach, it was decided to postpone the Olympics to a later date. According to the official statement of the International Olympic Committee, it is decided that the Games would be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021.
