was elected Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Tuesday, January 28, after the voting held during the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly, which is taking place in Strasbourg.

132 parliamentarians out of 252 voted had supported his candidacy. Petr Tolstoy also is the head of the Russian delegation to PACE.

“To this day, it was impossible to call our work at the Council of Europe complete and comprehensive. Now we get the opportunity to influence the agenda. We are here to defend the position of Russia, the interests and rights of citizens of our country, to uphold our principles and values,” said Petr Tolstoy.

He stressed that “everything that we have achieved at the PACE after returning last summer, was managed thanks to all members of our delegation. I believe that we will contribute to the future of the Council of Europe.”
