, the goal of the talks is to implement the format of the parliamentary
dimension to discuss the issues that concern the nationals of Russia and Ukraine. “We are talking about the implementation of the Minsk agreements in the framework of the Normandy Format. This issue was the main one, we discussed
it and agreed that the next meeting will be with broad representation both from
the Russian side and from our colleagues from the Ukrainian parliament,” he
said.
The Chairman of the State Duma hopes that the joint efforts of the parliamentarians will allow them to understand better each other. “It is extremely important for us that the situation would normalize, as well as the Minsk agreements would be implemented,” he said. Viacheslav Volodin recalled that it was that a dialogue had started because of this task.
”We will try to do everything to implement through the parliamentary dimension the discussion of issues that concern all European countries and us,“ stressed the Chairman of the state Duma.
Viktor Medvedchuk said that he considers the idea of a parliamentary dimension strategic in this issue, ”because today peace in the South-East is the main task for Ukraine.“ People are waiting for the implementation of the Minsk agreements within the Normandy format, he stressed.
Victor Medvedchuk said that the Inter-Factional Parliamentary Association of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace: Ukraine — Russia — Germany — France” was created a month ago. “The parliaments of these countries can contribute to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, to assist the Normandy format states to search and implement the peaceful initiatives,” he said. The parliamentarian also noted the special role of the Verkhovna Rada in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, as the adoption of the laws forming the basis of the political part of the agreements depends on it. The interaction of parliamentarians of the four countries will be very important, Viktor Medvedchuk believes.
He said that meetings in an expanded format between the parliamentarians of Ukraine and Russia, as well as France and Germany, will take place the next month or in a month and a half, “and then, I think, we will meet all together not just to discuss, but to debate and propose real, concrete ways to realize the main goal.“
Viacheslav Volodin emphasized that within the framework of such interaction, parliamentarians would try to do everything to the agreements be implemented. “It is even more important that we have a dialogue. When there is dialogue, trust in each other appears. Until today, this dialogue has not existed,” he reminded the Ukrainian politician. The restoration of interaction will be an important step towards the development of relations and the search for solutions, the Chairman of the State Duma said. Viktor Medvedchuk emphasized that he also thinks that the dialogue between the parliaments of Russia and Ukraine should be restored for the sake of the interests of citizens of both countries.
“We believe that all-mighty forces should unite their efforts in solving this problem and, through dialogue and search for solutions, reach a peaceful settlement,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
Earlier, representatives of Ukraine asked President of Russia Vladimir Putin to create an inter-parliamentary format of the “Normandy Four”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative of the Ukrainian side and instructed Viacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, to work over this issue.
